Legacy application modernisation

Modernise old systems without stopping the business.

Assess, refactor or replace legacy applications in safe stages, each one usable and reversible.

Why teams call us

Problems this solves

  • 01

    Unsupported technology

Old PHP, .NET or Java versions no longer receive security updates.

  • 02

    Knowledge leaving with people

Only one or two people understand how the system works.

  • 03

    Changes take months

Every change risks breaking something else.

  • 04

A full rewrite feels too risky

Big-bang rewrites are expensive and often fail.

Our approach

Most modernisation fails when it is attempted all at once. We start with an assessment of the code, data, integrations and risks, then modernise in stages: upgrading runtimes, adding tests around critical behaviour, extracting or replacing parts one at a time, and moving to modern hosting.

Each stage delivers something usable and has a rollback plan, so the business keeps running throughout.

How an engagement runs

Every engagement starts with a signed agreement and an advance payment as set out in your proposal. Work begins once both are complete.

  1. 01

    Assess

Code, data, integrations and risks reviewed.

  2. 02

    Stabilise

Tests, backups and monitoring put in place.

  3. 03

    Modernise in stages

    Upgrades and replacements, each reversible.

  4. 04

    Retire

Old components switched off once replacements are proven.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer? Ask us

Should we rewrite from scratch?
Rarely all at once. A staged approach keeps the business running and reduces risk. We recommend a rewrite only when the assessment shows it is cheaper and safer.
Can you work with code nobody understands?
Yes. We document behaviour, add tests, and interview users and staff before making changes.
Will there be downtime?
Most stages need little or none. Any planned downtime is agreed in advance and scheduled for quiet periods.
